Disaster Prevention and Relief Grants
Disasters and calamities are natural events that cannot be entirely avoided or stopped. They come quickly and sometimes without warning, causing major damage to cities and municipalities, big and small.
The trauma dealt to the victims is no laughing matter either. Most people lose their homes, their properties, even lives. Fear, confusion and chaos reign and people are swept along with the current of despair and hopelessness.
In response to these kinds of threats, the U.S government offers grants for disaster prevention and relief. To the people who’d like to help and be a part of the relief, these grants are blessings for it allows them to develop plans and projects that will aid the victims. Though these projects will not stop the occurrence of such calamities, they will lessen the damage inflicted or prevent the problem all together.
How grants
1. Research and Methods
Grants offered by the U.S government are often to fund research and studies that will help in preventing national disasters and aid in speeding up relief efforts.
This includes research and development of new equipment to predict Grants from the US government help in disaster prevention and relief weather and climate changes. Technologically advanced maps, sensors and satellites are needed to monitor wind strength and rain so that storms may be detected.
This also applies to equipment for seismology and earth-movement. Earthquakes, tidal waves and tsunamis create a great deal of damage so it’s priority to prevent them or minimize the damage as much as possible.
2. Advice and Counsel
After any calamity, there is a need for stress and fear to be let out. Various projects include recruiting and training people who will be able to counsel the victims, as well as do stress debriefing.
There are also projects that focus on information management and provision. These people coordinate the efforts of various groups to provide relief to the victims of calamity or disaster.
3. Construction
Aside from equipment and counseling, disaster prevention also requires infrastructures and construction that will prevent the natural disaster itself. These include:
* Dykes and flood control measure for storms and typhoons.
* Evacuation areas for victims of volcano eruption.
* Fire-proofing for residences, schools and even commercial areas.
* Underground shelters for tornadoes
* Earthquake proofing for buildings
Funding for these projects are also provided by grants offered by the Federal offices all over the U.S. Temporary housing for victims are also part of the construction projects and grants.
