Veterans deserve government grants

admin - Thursday, 16 April 2009 06:01

Believe it or not, American vets could now actually look toward receiving a package of new benefits that are enhanced as well as a cost of living allowance that is comparatively higher.  All this has been due to a move done by a House of Representatives subcommittee.

It was on the second of May that the subcommittee on benefits of the HVAC or the House Veterans Affairs Committee voted in a unanimous manner the amendment of the yearly Veterans Compensation Cost of Living Adjustment Act or the HR 4085.
The amendments done was the addition of main provisions from the other bills on proposed benefits for veterans.  One of the bills include the act providing jobs for veterans, or the H.R. 4015.

This particular bill helps reform the VETS or the Veterans Employment and Training Service that is part of the US Department of Labor.  This government service has the main responsibility of helping those veterans from the military transition themselves to the life as a civilian out in the job market.

The chairman of the subcommittee on benefits – Rep. Mike Simpson from Idaho – has stated that the act on providing jobs for veterans would actually help in the establishment of a system that would provide accountability to performances and so will measure in a continuous manner if veterans are being helped consistently.

This also applies whether a particular member of the service is stationed in Korea, or in the South, or at a local base in the good old US of A.  This particular initiative has the ability to place employment opportunities as well as training right at the veteran’s finger tips.

Believe it or not, the particular bill also allow $260M of award incentives for the duration of five years to those states that are able to provide the kind of quality services or those acts that have been able to make relevant improvements in the field of job placement for veterans.

Also, the act provides the following other provisions that will further help US veterans. These include allowing widowed spouses of veterans over 65 years of age and who have remarried to still receive benefits.  Also, the insurance coverage has been increased from $90,000 up to $150,000 under the Veterans Mortgage Life Insurance.  The coverage has also been extended to those 70 years old and above.

Also, reservists are allowed to pay the same fees in terms of home loans in the same way that military personnel pay them while on active duty.

All in all, the increases in the benefits veterans receive is set by Congress, mainly in part due to the processing involved in the federal budget.

Empowerment through grants for women

There are many U.S. government grants that are available today.  American citizens are not just aware or familiar with it because there is not advertisement about it.  This is probably because there are no funds allocated for such announcements.

One specific type of grant gives focus on women alone.  This can be research about women, other women oriented projects or businesses.  Obviously the main requirement is that your project must focus on women, women’s needs (like health) or you the grantee, must be a woman.

To be able to acquire that grant you need to focus on several things, these are the following:

- Know the different types of grants given for women
- Choose which one fits your needs
- Look into also if you are eligible for that grant you fancy.
- Get the application form or what some call as the grants application kit
- Review the necessary details necessary for the application
- Don’t rush.  Your writing must be well-written and succinct.
- Make sure that there are no errors, erasures and grammatical errors in your application.
- It is very important that your written request be done very well.  A well written paper gets the attention of the reviewers.  You will have more chances that the grant be awarded to you.
- It would help you better if you can enroll yourself in a proposal writing class (there are online courses available too).  You will be able to write your request in a much more understandable language that is very important for the reviewers.
- Make sure to pass your application before the deadline.  If you can, try to pass it earlier so it will be the first in line.  You don’t know how much competition there is for business or research funding.
- Wait after a few days you will receive a report about the evaluation of your request.  If you do get it they will request more information about you or your business endeavor.

This is a list of things you need to remember to get that grant but you must remember you need positive thinking and better writing to get it.

Don’t be discouraged just because you are a woman.  Instead feel empowered!  The government gives more incentives for women.  Be strong.  Get that grant.  And get yourself a better life.  You have the power to change things.
